Preparing for Your Dathun: Suggestions

Create a Space for Pause:

A place you can be for introspection

for about 20-30 minutes

with minimal interruptions. 

You may find it useful to 

do the practice at about the

same time every day.

Items You May Need: 

Mala Beads for 108 Breath Practice

Journal book or device

Any props you use for yoga practices

Your Yoga Sutras Translation(s) 

You are welcome to add practices, or do less practices,

as inspired throughout the July Dathun.

How do I

A "dathun" (dah-thoon) is a retreat of several days for intentional study

and practice, usually introspective in nature.

A dathun is a time of integration, a time to harvest and make the

practices and teachings your own.

Breath Study Day Seven:
Begin with 108 Breaths: Sweet & Simple
Layering the Practice, If You Like:
Feeling Sensation Possibilities
Expanding / Condensing
While doing the 108 Breaths, when you inhale, say gently to yourself
stay at the "top of the inhalation" and experience
Allow the accompanying exhale to arrive naturally. 
As you exhale, say gently to yourself 
when you come to the "bottom of the exhalation"
experience a sense of sweet gathering, or condensing. 
Go on to the next bead, and expand/condense as you like. 
Are there other words you would use to describe the sensations?

Yoga Sutras Day Seven: 
For Day 7, we will take a look at 2 translations of 1.22-25: Even Flow 
Read each one slowly, allow the meaning and feeling to support a peaceful presence.
This is already within you; the sutras unveil what is already present. Enjoy!  
"To the keen and intent practitioner, this Samadhi comes very quickly. The time necessary for success further depends on whether the practice is mild, medium, or intense. Or, Samadhi is attained by devotion with dedication. Pure Consciousness in equanimity. Pure Consciousess is free and vast." (Swami Satchidananda, 2005)
"Spiritual Consciousness develops in direct proportion to one's dedication. Boundless love and devotion unite us with the Divine Consciousness. The Divine Consciousness is self-effulgent, like the sun. The Divine Consciousness is the essence of all knowledge, wisdom, and love." (Devi, 2010)

Bringing Imagination into your Journaling: Vikalpah as Medium 

1) Befriend (quiet) the mind as you would for meditation. 


2) Allow images to enter your field of attention. Focus on them, yet allow them to pass through you. This balance between useful relaxation and intention needed to attend the images can require practice and patience. 


3) After some time with the flow of images, record what you perceived in writing or in an art medium, to give form to the experience of "image watching". 


4) Reflect on the messages you received from the experience.

Sit in Open Awareness Meditation for several moments.


Do several Sweet Breaths, then sequence in another pranayama. 


Move to an asana practice. 

After an Open Awareness Meditation, lie down for Savasana.

Take a "Savasayatra", a journey within.
